    Sorry for the delay here in updating but I've been preparing for a trip to Florida so it has been a bit hectic just getting last minute things taken care of. I'll try to update as often as possible while i'm on the road so you can get your daily dose of my thoughts and commentary. Anyway, I thought i'd go ahead and comment on Verizon (NYSE: VZ). Buy it. That's all.

    No but seriously, this company is a buy in my opinion. They own 30% of the telephone service market in the U.S. according to Morningstar (thanks again to the good folks over at Morningstar for doing all that research). Plus, I can't seem to bring myself to cancel DSL service though them. I thought about it--got as far as calling to ask a few questions about how it would affect my account upon my return--and ended up hanging onto the service (and not because the after-effects would be negative). I'd say that the key word here is retention. I think they've probably got some of the highest retention rates in their key service areas (i.e. land line telephone, broadband, wireless services, and cable TV). That's a great combination if you ask me. Retention + Market Share = Long Term Winner.

    About the price: The price of Verizon is hovering in the low 40's which is towards the top of their 52-week range but I think the long term prospects are such that paying a price in the 40's is okay here. Just watch it carefully for pullbacks.
