Will You Add? - How You View Change Is How You Do Change - Part Two
Plan for a Hot Career r “lady” in the picture. It is amazing how just ten seconds can shape what you see and how you see it.In the old days, workers were likely to stay with one company their whole lives, and “career development” typically meant promotion up a single ladder.Today, things have changed. Jobs change rapidly — many of the jobs people hold today did not exist 20 years ago — and we tend to change jobs numerous times throughout our career — sometimes jumping from ladder to ladder and sometimes starting up a new ladder. These changes make it imperative that today’s workers be highly flexible and open to different options and opportunities. Just as jobs evolve, we have to evolve to keep our skills current.Although you should take control of your own career progression, you’re probably not alone in the effort. Your current manager, for one, should be helpful in giving you information, feedback, and support you need to grow and build your marketable skills. If, by chance, your manager is not very supportive in developing your job skills and professional growth, you can always find a mento The perception we have of ourselves and the world is shaped by our need for stability and security in our lives. Would you take your car to be serviced by a mechanic whose only tools were a chocolate bar and hairspray? Would you want to your child to go to an elementary school that only taught from a set of 1964 encyclopedias?Do you see the connection? It is simple- really. Every industry has tools that can be specific to that industry. The dentist would never use a chainsaw (even though it may feel like it). They use tools that are designed and that are necessary for the successful completion of their task- to assist with proper dental hygiene. The same holds true for ever other profession and industry. At the same time, to take tools that may not be useful to an industry can slow down the process. So here comes the question. Why is it that those that skip trace do not utilize the tools that are available to our profession or we try to use the tools of other professions to do our job? What ar The Way You View Is The Way You Do The way you view the world and yourself is the way you live and move in the world. The way you view is the way you do. Change is a matter of viewing; it is as much about perception as it is about maintaining stability and security. When I conduct seminars on the topic of transition management, I have half the audience view for about ten seconds a drawing of a young lady and the other half view for ten seconds a drawing of an old lady. These are actually two versions of the same picture. If you took both versions and put them together, you’d have a depiction of a single female person. The one half doesn’t know what the other half is seeing. I would then have the entire audience look at the amalgamated picture and tell me what they saw. In every case, a large majority of those who view the drawing of the young lady immediately prior to seeing the combined picture say they see a young lady; likewise, a large majority of those who view the old lady first say they see an old lady. Furthermore, many of these folks, when challenged to see what others saw, adamantly defended their initial perception because they were unable to see the other “lady” in the picture. Retail stores pay a high rental fee. Mall management wants to insure the success of those stores. They do not want to loose revenue that comes from profit yielding spaces.Listed below are a few tools that malls offer that can be used to generate a sizeable retail profit.1. Lease lines. Most malls allow stores to use a small space outside their store front to advertise. This is an important marketing tool because it can be used for several purposes. In my opinion the most effective way to use the lease line, is to place a standing poster in the area to capture customers attention. The poster needs to be placed on both sides, so which ever side the customer is walking the ad will be easily viewed. Stores can use this to advertise specials, new merchandise or to move a product that has not snatched the attention of the consumer.2. Table toppers. This is a kind of metal stamping used mostly for decorative purposes. It is similar to normal metal stamping, which is the process of molding metal into different shapes and sizes. The products obtained through metal stamping are used as components for some larger products in other industries. The most common metals and alloys used for precision metal stamping are copper, aluminum, brass, beryllium, nickel, nickel silver, steel, stainless steel, phos bronze and titanium.Precision metal stamping is applicable to many industries like computers, electronics, electrical, dental, aerospace, instrumentation, military specs, defense, telecom and automotives. Driven by our need to survive both as a body and as a person we default to a perception of change as being threatening and frightening. Of course, if we remain as we are we cannot grow beyond our self-imposed limitations and limiting notions about what we can become and the contributions we can make. Most of us realize this and do make attempts from time to time to get out of the physical, psychological and spiritual ruts that keep us traveling along the same smooth, well-worn paths within our private comfortable universe. Unfortunately, most of our efforts to change go nowhere and wind up fueling our fears that change will be for the worse, not for the better. This failure to launch and consummate change serves to reinforce our pessimistic attitude toward it and harden our perception of the world as being antagonistic to our self-interests. In times of failing to effect the change we want, it would be wise to remind ourselves of the words of the popular advice columnist, Ann Landers: “maturity is the ability to live in peace with that which we cannot change.” The abbreviated version of Reinhold Niebuhr’s “Serenity Prayer” is always calming in times of trouble: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” Perception Shifting In order to break this cycle of resistance to change and get you
