    Fat Day
The other day I felt fat and flabby.  I was having a “fat” day.  My stomach felt bigger than normal, and I felt puffy.  My legs jiggled and seemed to spread to the corners of the earth when I sat down.  I must have eaten too much or exercised too little.  I must have been having a hormonal moment.  Discipline must have failed me.  I felt like my work wasn’t working.  I must be losing my focus.  Oh no, I’ll never get fit.  Why keep trying?  But wait!  I hadn’t lost focus, except in my mind’s eye.  My mind was playing a trick on me.  I couldn’t see the strong me that I usually see looking back from the mirror.  My mind was showing me a flabby, ugly, fat wo

What Does She Have That I Don't?
Have you ever asked yourself why a competitor’s business gets more attention than yours? The answer just may have to do with the elements that go into how memorable the business is. And that has to do with branding. But exactly what is branding, anyway? Think of branding as predefining what a company is all about in the minds of its clients. Good branding differentiates your products and services in a positive way that really sticks in the minds of potential customers.Let’s say you have been traveling around town without your morning coffee and are getting just a little cranky. Quick! What’s the first coffee shop chain that comes to mind? Chances ar
Recently, I read an interesting article about Jenny Pruitt. She is an Atlanta icon in the real estate industry. Ms Pruitt is leaving the company she founded 18 years ago and retiring from the day-to-day operations of Jenny Pruitt Realty. She leaves a company that sales totaled over $1.5 billion dollars with 450 full time real estate agents and six offices in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Her plans are “to pursue personal development”, contribute more time to civic works and expand her speaking opportunities (she averages 75 per year).

This entrepreneur is truly leaving on top! Five years ago, she sold her company to HomeServices of America, which is owned by billionaire Warren Buffett. What was her new year’s resolution 18 years ago when she started her company? Stephen Covey says, “Begin with the end in mind.” What was Jenny Pruitt’s dream? Certainly, she launched her real estate empire with definite end in mind! How did she achieve success? What foundation did she set in place to build such a successful business? How did she position her company to be sold to one of world’s richest men?

Take Command of Your Career: How To Avoid Relying On Other People
Take command of your career and don’t rely on others to manage it for you.The Internet has made it very easy for job searchers to rely on other people to manage their careers, usually with limited results. Here are some suggestions to ensure you take command of your career:1. Don’t rely on other people to run your job search for you.A recruiter doesn’t work for you, they work for any client company that pays them to find staff. A recruiter isn’t paid to get you a job, they are paid to find someone to take a job that their client has available.Similarly, while it’s good to get advice from trusted friends and family

    Problems with Hiring the Turncoat
On the surface Gary looked like a really valuable employee. He was employed by a well-established regional business. He was a published author in a state-wide industry, monthly publication. He had contacts in both large and small population markets. Gary was paid well, but he wanted more.Based on his insightful comments and writing skill along with his business contacts, Gary was hired away for an increase in pay to a competing business. He immediately began trying to persuade his old contacts to move their orders with him. He met with little success.Gary’s old clients remained firm in their relationship with his old employers. Not only that but, t

Fear of Change Can Hurt Your Business
Most people don’t like change. It means having to re-adjust routine, change habits and throw your order of process into upheaval. You are leaving your comfort zone. Most people don’t want to do this, so those people fail. Even when that change could mean something GOOD people balk.Internet marketing is no different. You get used to doing something one way, you use the same ad sources for your marketing, you go after promoting the same products, and your web pages even start looking the same. I have heard this saying from just about every successful business person I know:If you keep doing what you’re doing . . . you’re going to keep getting w

Merchandise Delivery Time & Federal Law
    I. BACKGOUNDThe federal Mail or Telephone Order Rule spells out the ground rules for making promises about shipments, notifying consumers about unexpected delays, and refunding consumers' money.Enforced by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Rule applies to orders placed by phone, fax or the Internet. Compliance with the Rule can have bottom line benefits for your company, because satisfied customers are repeat customers.II. Jenny Pruitt had a plan! And while most people will resolve to lose weight, stop smoking, stop drinking, get healthy or find true love, Jenny Pruitt had a definite plan for her business! Without a doubt, she had a resolution to turn her business into a billion dollar company! That is the difference between an average business owner and an entrepreneur! Jenny understands that you have to have a plan and a system to become successful!

What are the important steps? While I did not interview Ms Pruitt before writing this commentary, as a business coach, I believe that I can offer some insight into her accomplishments.

First, you must know and understand your business numbers. That is your profitability, expenses, clients, sales, transactions and leads. More importantly, you must know how to improve your business! What can you do to improve profitability? How can you attract new clients? What can you do you improve your sales? How can increase your leads? What is the return on investment for your clients? Who are you most profitable clients, products a
