Now this of course goes hand in hand with something that's important in any gaming device, and that is hardware performance. This however is debatable when it comes to the kind of games you enjoy, if you don't think you need to play 3d or shooter games on your phone, then performance might not be such a big issue, but still it's important because todays games become more and more complicated and take up a lot of the phones resources.
Ergonomics and especially compatibility are important as well. By compatibility I mean having a phone that has at least java midp 2.0 and also that has a lot of games being developed for it.

* Nokia series 40 3rd edition phones

* Sony Erricson K series and W series
* Samsung D900 or D900i
* Nokia N and E series
* any other high-end phone
I personally recommend a Nokia or SE for the most simplest of reasons: these are two very popular brands that have a lot of game titles developed for them. Be advised that Nokia series 60 have a symbian operating system which can lead to a whole lot of complications if you're not tech savvy. Also I have deliberately left out the old Nokia N-gage series since I believe those type of phones to be more like consoles you can talk on then phones you can play on.
