If you’ve been an exemplary employee and the lay-off is not because of anything you’ve done, be sure you ask these three questions as you are being handed your Pink Slip:1. Ask for a Letter of Reference. You can use this to help you land that new job because it will be beneficial to have a letter that praises you and

      Stretching Your Sense of Service
How far does your service go? And how much farther can you stretch it?If you serve customers, do you stretch to do it better every day? Are you eager to learn from colleagues and mentors, seminars, books, websites, and a healthy dose of candid customer feedback? If you provide internal service, do you reach across functional lines, or stay stuck inside your departmental 'silo'? Is your communication with colleagues and partners positive, proactive and persisten
You should wait until you're older and have more business and real-world experience before starting a business. You should just focus on school for now. Nobody will take you seriously at this age.

You'll hear all these reasons--and more--about why you shouldn't start a business from your friends, your parents, your advisors and many others who only have your best intentions at heart. But before you start believing what you hear, take a moment to think to yourself, What would have happened if somebody had told these arguments to and convinced:

      • Bill Gates who left Harvard to start Microsoft
      • Michael Dell who left the University of Texas to start Dell
      • Milton Hershey who opened his first candy shop when he was 18
      • Fred Smith who, while attending Yale, received a "C" on his Fedex business plan and decided to start his business anyway
      • Steve Jobs who left Reed University to start Apple
      • William Hewlett and David Packard who started HP out of a garage after graduating from Stanford

        Are You An Association Junkie?
Association -- It connotes people working together to achieve a common goal. That goal could be anything from improving your education, finding a new job, getting more business, increasing your visibility or simply expanding your network of support resources. That works for me! I'm an association junkie. I learned very early in my career that belonging to an association can make or break you. So, if you haven't joined one now is the best time to start. For you indep

          Fear of Failure
Of all the real or perceived impediments to success, the biggest is the fear of failure. Certainly, there are often many other obstacles to overcome, but it is this one phantom that prevents most people from even attempting to create the success they imagine that they want. And, in most cases, it is a mere phantom—the boogeyman that hides under the bed. Fear of failure is a creature of imagination and like most creatures of imagination, it disappears when looked at in

Get The Sale By Not Over-Selling
When the customer is ready to buy, do not tell more than necessary. Yet how many times have customers been put off by sales people who should know better?I would like to relate two experiences when sales people nearly lost the sale through "telling too much".In the first case, a direct marketing representative was selling a health food to a customer. The representative never bothered to find out the customer's background and instead went into the product benef
