While coordinating an out-of-town, semi annual meeting and training seminar, I was given a wonderful recommendation for lunch by the hotel’s office manager. This small, family owned delicatessen was the most chosen caterer for many events at the hotel. Excellent references were given by former and current clients regarding the food, service and affordable prices for accommodating their group. This delicatessen delivered, setup our buffet style lunch and later returned to clean up and disassemble the arrangement.

After the delicious hot lunch they provided for my meeting, the attendees gave the restaurant a round of applause. Because of my overall satisfaction, I decided to have lunch at this deli before I left town. I got directions from the hotel staff and took the easiest route to get there. After my initial visit to the deli, I was not surprised to later find out that the owners were selling the business. Why? It couldn’t be the food or their excellent customer service. From my immediate observation, I surmised it to primarily be the ability to easily find their restaurant and once I found it, "visibility" of their location was another strike against them. Now, although they were located in an established, expansive office park, their site was probably in the worst location. They were situated at the rear of one of the office buildings down a dead-end driveway. According to one of the co-owners, their business reached its peak between the hours of 11:00-1:00, Monday through Friday. Why? Because the people who worked in the office park took their lunch breaks during these hours.
