Will You Add? - Renting Your Mailing Lists to Others
Want More Clients? Get More Vision o rent your list. That way, you can tell if someone is using your list more than once without paying. This is called "seeding" the list. Also, you will get offers you have never seen before, that you may want to respond to.
One of the interesting side effects of relying exclusively on this E-Newsletter to market my business, is that 100% of my prospective clients reach out to me, rather than vice versa. In other words, instead of identifying industries or companies or individuals who seem to be the likely buyers of my services and trying to get in touch with them (the way most experts would advise), I simply publish this newsletter every other week, sit in my office drinking coffee, and wait for the phone to ring (what can I tell you, it seems to work). As a result of this approach, and again, unlike the experience of most service professionals, in that first conversation with a prospective client, I usually know absolutely nothing about who they are or what they do.I know, I know, that’s a cardinal sin in the world of sales. You’re supposed to do all kinds of research regarding a prospective client and the industry it lives in before getting on the phone with them. How else can you impress them with your intimate knowledge of what they do and the problems they face, and avoid looking foolish and ill-informed during that first, all important, discussion?Good question. You’ll be pleased to know that I’ve developed and fine-tuned a Proprietary Interrogation Methodology (PIM), which allows me to learn all about a prospect, without compromising my position as all- knowing consultant in the process. And, you’ll be even more pleased to know that I’m going to share this entire blueprint with you, today, at no cost (you can thank me later). It’s tricky though, so watch carefull How much should you rent your list for? Well, it all depends. Read the ad sheets and tabloids you get in the mail and see what others are charging. Use this as a guideline. Despite what other writers may say, don't count on making $100,000 per year renting lists. Some people do, but they are the ones who do ONLY that, who Management Style and Organizational Culture RESOLVING THE "PROPRIETARY" DILEMMA... SHOULD YOU RENT YOUR OWN MAILING LIST TO OTHER BUSINESSES ?
The potential benefits of improved job design are unlikely to be realized, if attention is focused on the content of jobs alone. Equal, if not more important, is the process by which redesign is carried out. This has led to recognition of the importance of management style and, increasingly, of organization culture. Central to improving the quality of working life is a participative, open style of management involving employees in decisions that affect them, including the design or choice of the technology itself. Personnel policies, including those related to pay and benefits, should attempt to develop a relationship of trust among all members and sections of the organization, and a confident partnership approach to trade unions.Supervision involves technical knowledge, human relations' skills and co-ordination of work activities. Effective supervision is necessary for job satisfaction and high levels of work performance. Kindly and thoughtful leader behavior is likely to generate high worker satisfaction. Supervisors who adopt a considerate manner towards workers tend to have the more highly satisfied work groups. Lack of job satisfaction and unhappiness at work, may also arise from problems connected with managers. The increasing pace of technological and structural change has made it imperative to address the issues of managing change in ways that would ensure the best outcomes for organizations and for the people in them. An important issue is still the jobs which people are asked to perform. When change is being planned, particularly if new technology is to be introduced, a ‘window of opportunity' exists to think about Mail order dealers are always looking for more people to send their offers to. You'll find this out in your own business. Besides sending your offers out to people who answer your ad, you can expand your business by doing mass mailings to lists of people who have responded to offers similar to yours. You can make extra profits by renting your customer list to other dealers. Take note of the term "renting." Too many people use the terms "buy" and "sell" when talking about mailing lists. Mailing lists are rented, not bought and sold. When you rent a mailing list, it is for onetime use. Any customers who order from you can, of course, be added to your permanent customer list. But you shouldn't send out more than once to a rented list. This is unethical, as it robs the owner of the mailing list of revenues. How would you like it if someone paid you once for the mailing list YOU were renting out, then used it three or four times? Each time he used it would be a rental fee you DON'T get. So, mailing lists are not bought and sold. They are rented. How should you go about setting up your customer list so you can gain rental income? If you don't have a computer, the best way to go about it is by purchasing some photocopier labels. These can be found at any office supply store. Type your names and addresses once on labels. This is your master set. Then, when you get an order for your list, photocopy your master list onto new labels. The best customers to send an offer to are ones who have bought in the past thirty days. A list of names and addresses that are less than thirty days old can be rented for a higher rate than older names. I wouldn't bother renting names that are more than ninety days old, unless you specifically say they are that old in your ads. Most smart dealers won't rent them, though, so it may be a waste of your time. Also, a list of people who have just inquired about offers, but not ordered, will not rent for too much. A good idea is to have a friend whose name and address you can add to your list. Then, have your friend pass on to you anything he or she receives from those who rent your list. To tell you the truth (and about 53% of this article is true), I don’t know where I heard this story about Mark Twain. But I’ve heard it enough times to verify that it’s either (a) at least half true, or (b) a credible lie.Anyway, it’s seems that in the early 1850’s Twain – then known as Samuel Clemens – found himself in San Francisco without a job. The reason he was there, I believe, had something to do with the Gold Rush.Twain loved the town, and wanted to stay. But to do so he had to find a job. Since he’d worked on a newspaper before, he applied at a big publication there. No thanks, the editor said. We don’t need any writers right now. And even if we did, we don’t have money in the budget to pay them.Twain countered with an amazing offer. What if he agreed to work for free? I’ll write for you, Twain said. You publish my work, and if people like what I write, maybe you’ll hire me.You can guess the rest of this report. The editor loved Twain’s work, hired him, and Twain’s career continued to build. But what if he’d simply walked out the door that day?The moral of this story: Free is pretty hard to refuse. Next time you have trouble winning a client, how about offering to do a project for free, just to show what you can do? According to an April 2006 issue of the New Scientist, research has proven that subliminal advertising messages work… and that if conditions are right, subliminal advertising to promote a brand can be made to work.Previous experiments claiming this were debunked. But in a recent experiment, scientists found that eighty per cent of volunteers who had been exposed to the subliminal advertising message chose that product, compared to only 20 per cent of the controls. Those are scary stats indeed. The term “subliminal message” was popularized in 1917 (World War I), when the US army would sneak messages into songs and put subliminal messages in posters trying to get people to join the army.A subliminal message is defined as a signal or message designed to pass below the normal limits of perception. Subliminal messages target the subconscious mind and may be generated in the form of an image transmitted briefly and not perceived consciously and yet perceived unconsciously. While the conscious, rational mind acts as a filter and screens out messages not consistent with our beliefs, the subconscious mind accepts messages without filtering them - rather like the mind of a child. The effects of subliminal television advertising could be even more powerful on children. It’s been found that for each additional hour per day that a child watched television an average of one additional request was made for an advertised product. But then it doesn’t take a scientist to tell us what most parents know anyway. Most of us have experienced pester-power first-hand.The researchers also found that priming only works How should you go about setting up your customer list so you can gain rental income? Many gamers look at the games they play and dream of creating their own. Perhaps with a pet idea for a game that hasn’t been done yet. Maybe you think a particular game is brilliant, but the plot is so thin, surely a better writer could have pulled so much more out of the experience. If you find yourself thinking like this, maybe a video game design job is for you. Let's take a look at what positions are available.Lead designers write and program and organize. It is the responsibility of the lead designer to make sure the universe of the game is a place players will find interesting. The lead designer needs to keep track of the pulse of the gaming world, to know what is hot, what is cold and what gamers will expect in a new game. The lead designer tries to find the best compromise between the resources and time available and the needs of the project to create the best possible game, knowing where to cut corners and where to focus attention.Another of the tasks is to ensure that everyone in the project understands and works towards the themes of the game. What seems like a minor change can cost weeks of work and waste thousands of dollars. The lead designer has to determine when it is worth those changes, and to plan well enough that changes aren’t needed more than a tiny amount of the time.Game designers take the notes given to them by the others and turn them into virtual reality. Game designers are given parts of the game and are told to make each module work, and work together with the modules the other designers are managing. Game designers have to be good analysts and outgoing people who w A good idea is to have a friend whose name and address you can add to your list. This is very beneficial for the entire community and is also lots of fun. It not only makes the children aware of your restaurant, but also every parent and teacher.By promoting to and assisting a school close to your restaurant, it shows that you are a responsible corporate and caring member of your community. You are getting the restaurant's name and credibility out to areas of your community that might not otherwise be aware of you. Here are some ideas to consider:1. Reward Outstanding Effort I am not just talking about good grades. The very best students generally always do well. I believe it is important to reward a student that has really excelled according to their capability. Talk to the Headmaster/mistress and teachers and get them to nominate students according to effect and diligence. You can offer free meals, deserts or even parties. You can also issue certificates.2. Sponsor School Activities All schools have different academic programs and sports teams and other extra-curricular activities that need sponsors. They often have to travel long distances. You will probably even be asked to join in as a volunteer giving you further opportunities to connect with people and businesses from your local community.3. Do a Cooking Show at the School This can be educational and lots of fun. You can include any of your cooks or other staff too. Get teachers and students to participate on stage. Make things that are fun and colourful, where you can incorporate some nutrition, food and safety information.4. Form a Strategic Alliance With Another Business How much should you rent your list for? Well, it all depends. Read the ad sheets and tabloids you get in the mail and see what others are charging. Use this as a guideline. Despite what other writers may say, don't count on making $100,000 per year renting lists. Some people do, but they are the ones who do ONLY that, who have large, multiple computer setups, and spend thousands in advertising. Let THEM do that. While you may make a much smaller amount renting your list, it's still money you didn't have before. In your ads, be sure to include how old your list is, how many names, and where they came from. For example: "125 Fresh, Active Mail Order Buyer's Names from my Order list, all less than 30 days old. $2.00 plus 2 first class stamps. Order today! (your name and address)." This ad can be used as a classified ad or a typeset one-inch ad. Labels usually come 33 to a page (3 columns of 11), so you can fill this order with four sheets. Your cost should be less than 50 cents, so you make $1.50 per order, plus your postage expense is nothing. Enclose your best offers with your list, up to the maximum weight for the amount of postage you requested, and you will make more money with the orders you receive. You will get a lot of dealers who will pay for your names, if they are priced right. Like I said, you won't get rich, but it's more money, and you'll get some orders for your other offers, too. Add the names of those who rent your list to the list of names you rent. After all, they're your customers too. Copyright 2004 by DeAnna Spencer
