Plastics Are One of the Most Important Materials We Have
Consider all the materials that we make stuff out of and how important they are to us. If you ask the average person they will immediately think of steel, aluminum, glass and concrete, then they will think a bit and say Plastic.Ah ha, Plastic indeed, yes plastic and they probably should have said that first you see. After all, as one gentleman recently told me plastic is invisible and we do not think much about it until one day we watch our mashed in bumper pop-back out and bingo, good as new. Plastic is a material that is quite often invisible. But it is so vitally important to everything we make.He is right about the plastic being invisible, t
Opening the door and stepping inside a store, is like the curtain going up on stage. Shopping is a play we all participate in. Even those who say they don't like it. Great stores entertain us, share new ideas, make political statements, express our values, and then send us home with more stuff than we intended to buy. A great play starts out with a great story. Just reading that story on stage doesn't make great theatre. There are many other elements that make a story into a dramatic production. In retail, the story is the product.

You might have the best product since the ipod, but just putting it on a shelf doesn't mean people will buy it. To successfully sell a product today you need to create a shopping experience for consumers that they enjoy. If they don't like it, they'll go somewhere else. In theater and retail, drama and entertainment are created with the same elements. You need: a great setting, great lighting and great talent.

    Acquire, Then Rebrand
Acquiring another corporation usually means that the acquiring company's name will be the name of the newly merged entity. There is one factor that can change that -- one that is stronger than anything else. What is it? It is you, the consumer. There is nothing that stirs fear in corporate boards of directors more than negative consumer feedback. The way a company is perceived -- through marketing of its product line to community involvement -- will determine whether the company ultimately succeeds or fails. Thus, it is the buying public -- consumers -- who truly determine the direction a company moves. Lost sales = a sinking business. In acquirin

Make Customers Come Back - Winning Customer Retention Strategies
Customer Retention marketing is a tactically-driven strategy to keep relationships with customers going and increase customer interest. This strategy relies on the study of customer behavior. Here are the basic tenets of a marketer that seeks to increase customer retention:1. Past and Current customer behaviorThis is the best predictor of how customers will behave in the future. They are the characteristics marketers should most often look at. Analyzing customer tendencies and trends allows the marketer to anticipate, if not predict, the customers reaction to different situations. The marketer must take note that behavior is action oriented, no

Improve Customer Service by Being Honest with Your Customers
With all the headlines about corruption in business and government, many believe that honesty is allusive. However, honesty can improve your customer service. This past week I realized the power of honesty specific to customer service. Let me share two real examples to illustrate this point.During a return from a meeting with a client, I stopped in a national restaurant chain where I have consistently experienced good food and fast service no matter how busy the restaurant was. After placing the order, I watched others being seated and then noticed that they were receiving their food orders while I was still awaiting. Finally, I asked for my waitress

    Finding A Career In Architecture
Anyone who is talented in design, imagining how a house or building could be constructed or who likes to draw may have the talent to find a successful career in architecture. An architect is responsible for designing and planning the interior workings and foundation of a home or building. Architects are responsible for drawing up plans and blueprints for towering city buildings, small country homes and luxurious mansions. A successful architect must be versatile and imaginative while maintaining respect for the customer’s wishes. There are a number of jobs available in the world of architecture and designing homes may be a career in itself. A setting can be created on stage with all the trimmings and details - a complete re-creation of another place. Or it can be a mere suggestion of a place - a single chair, painted backdrops. The audience still gets the picture. Their imagination fills in the rest.

The same is true in retail. Some stores are very elaborate in their design, with every tiny aspect considered. Others use paint and a few carefully chosen pieces of furniture to suggest an atmosphere.

If you get the setting wrong for the story, the audience is confused. In retail, this is like selling designer clothes in a discount store. Linoleum tile, garish signs and crowded aisles won't interest someone who wants to buy a suit by Giorgio Armani.

That shopper wants to see a small boutique, lots of floor space, maybe a couple of armchairs and a coffee table. The floor might be hardwood, or perhaps decorative stone tile. It would be crazy for Walmart or Zellers to try to create an upscale mood like this. Their customers would immediately assume the products were too expensive, without even setting foot inside.
