Communication is the Key n. A good small business investor will understand that their role is to invest in the company, not run the company. You want their invested capital working for your business, not another pseudo manager to contend with.No matter what business you are in there is one common factor - communication.Whether it is verbal, visual, on paper or electronic, having clear communication is a must for any successful business. This can be even more challenging when dealing with other cultures, nationalities and lifestyles. For some time, on behalf of one of my clients, I have been communicating with people from other countries and it is always a challenge to maintain clarity of message. Even though we are speaking the English language each party has their own cultural approach - Asian, English, German, South African, American - and sen Small Checks Take Longer Raising smaller amounts of capital doesn’t translate in Search Engine Optimization is Expensive I don’t know if there is some sort of mathematical equation you can put to this, but it would certainly appear that the smaller the investor’s check, the bigger the headache they become to an entrepreneur. After shopping around for a search engine optimization company, you may be a little confused about the price gaps between search engine optimization company’s proposals. Here are a few clarifications.Search engine optimization is becoming more necessary than ever for the web site owner. Having a web site and doing business online is all about expanding the exposure for your product, service, and content. The way to achieve a higher ranking is with relevant content, fresh content, and multiple links to your web site from other relevant web sites. Some proposals may look the same but why is there such a price gap?< You might think the opposite would be true, that smaller investors would only expect to play a minor role in the business while the larger investors would make all of the important calls. These are the guys who are putting $5,000 into your company and think they’re Gordon Gekko, trying to run the company like some big time investor. All this extra time that they have to manage these investments actually sucks the life out of your deal because you have to constantly manage their expectations to the nth degree of detail. Certainly getting help from a small business investor to grow your business is a nice thing, but not if it involves being micro-managed to death over every decision. This is known as "chance of gain" positioning. Your product or service helps people further their pleasure, realize a passion, or take some action that makes them happy, e.g. a new car; a pair of skis; a book about being successful.2) Pain or Fear: They want to move away from something. This is known as "fear of loss" positioning. Your product or service helps people avoid trouble, risk, or eliminate something that keeps them up at night, e.g. an insuran Less Money = More Time Smaller business investors seem to have disproportionately more time to invest than they have money. You’re sure that your job is well suited to telecommuting. Now you just need your boss to agree that this is a great idea, but how?The best approach is to make a proposal. A proposal is a very effective way to sell the idea to your employer because it can be used to highlight the benefits, and presents your request in an organized, professional manner. A well-written proposal can also show that you can work well on your own (a very important point, since you will be largely unsupervised).
