At first and some times still is, it was intimidating and somewhat overwhelming. At this point I believe it is a personal judgement call whether to design and maintain what areas of your site. Of course there are several factors influencing this decision. Among them, finances, experience level-both in design work or the ability to choose a designer, knowledge level-marketing, software, and design, and mostly I believe the confidence and desire to do the work.
OK, my personal financing option is summed up by a phrase that stuck in my mind while watching a movie some time back, I believe Mickey Rooney played the part-'if it only cost a nickel to travel around the whole entire world, I could not even get out of site.' This one fact alone severely limits how much help you can solicit. Trusting my ability to learn, I so far have chosen to personally see to all aspects of my business website. In it seems all my business decisions I have not taken the path of least resistance. My philosophy is there is no better way to learn something than by the experience of actually doing it. On a side note here I would like to express my respect, admiration, and wonder for the persons who pioneered the whole internet business phenomenon. To stay focused and believe that something abstract would work so much to see it to culmination is something to marvel at. No doubt every person involved then and now in developing new internet concepts of the unkown have had their moments of doubt and wonder if they were on the right track or even close. It is that respect that influences me to minimize the influence of others on my beliefs of how things should be. I am pretty sure here that I am describing a hard headed person, none the less, success or no success I will know and understand why.
So far I have only discussed one rather small ingredient of an online business, but even this aspect is a lot of time and effort if taken on personally. I was naive enough to think if you publish a website people would just somehow drive by and thinking what a nice site, let us stop and visit. I will tell you, the nicest site ever can be published to the internet and not a soul will find their way to it with out guidance. What a story in itself. I am learning there are many ways to create traffic, and there in lies one way to get off track and spend a lot of money. It is a good thing, I believe, that I do not have any.
