    Once you have determined the niche area in which you want to create products or sell affiliate products, you need to determine which product or products you want to start with.

    The type of product may have a lot to do with the niche you choose. For example, if you have chosen to sell cat products, for example you want to create a web site that sells things for cats, then you will probably sell food, toys, and instruction manuals related to cats. If, on the other hand, you have a skill such as writing or fishing, which you want to teach others for a profit, then you will probably create ebooks, videos, audios, or DVD type products.

    So take a look at the niche area where you want to focus. What types of products are good fits for your niche market? This should serve as your starting point.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. When you try to offer too many different types of products, then the people to whom you are marketing will have to be a less-targeted group.     You are far better off starting with one product that is tightly focused, and only attempt to market to people who fit the demographics of that one product. As you become more experienced, you can create additional, related products that can be marketed to that same tightly-targeted group, or you can create additional groups of buyers to whom you can market other types of products.

    My two targeted lists outperform the general list by several times over. If I send an email out to all my lists, that promotes one of the topics for which I have a targeted list, the response rate is many times that of the response rate on the general list. Now, that makes sense, since the people who opt in to the targeted list are more interested in that one topic than the general list. So the lesson here is that the more targeted your list, the more money you will make per subscriber.
