Why Does My Overhead Projector Keep Blowing Lamps?
Over the past 25 years I have had the unique opportunity to talk directly with many of the professionals and instructors who use Overhead Projectors as an integral part of their profession. The stories they have shared with me have given me direct insight to some of the most common problems experienced by owners of today’s and yesterday’s Overhead Projectors.I would like to share this unique compilation of information with a series of articles derived directly from some of the most common questions and complaints that I re
    Moderating Comments

This feature allows the owner and author to moderate the comments coming in to his or her postings, controlling unwanted comment spam. The author can delete, approve and edit these comments.

    Comment Spam

Spam is an unfortunate reality on the Internet and in email. The spammers often use spam to link to useless websites, promotional garbage or unwanted domains. This is done to attract a higher page ranking in search engines such as Google, to be sold at a higher price later or for existing websites. Spammer’s motivation is money so these individuals work hard to get their unwanted information out there. This can be overwhelming but most blogging software programs include tools to overcome Comment Spam.

    Pretty Permalinks

A Permalink is the permanent URL that corresponds to a specific article in the blog or any other URL that is part of your website or any other website. This Permalink is how another blogger will refer to the article (or section), or how a link would be sent via email. Because this information will be passed around, consistency is desired giving it the name Permalink, for permanence.

For example, a default Permalink: /index.php?p=512

This is a Permalink but it doesn’t tell the reader or blogger any information about the posting. “Pretty” Permalinks provide some cohesive information.

    Example: /archives/2005/07/26/my-new-mustang/

This Permalink tells the reader where they are going (archives), when the article was written (2005/07/26) and what the article is titled (my new mustang). When Permalinks are created coherently, it is possible to “hack” to modify the link text in the browser. Meaning that the user can assume if they use the URL without the title, they will get all articles from 7/26/05, if they modify the Permalink to /archives/2005/07, they will be directed to all archives from July, 2005.

    Link Manager

The Link Manager manages all links to other blogs or websites that the owner wants to offer to his or her readers or audience. These may be broken down into categories such as ‘cool sites’, ‘my favorite blogs’ or ‘people who pay me to put their link here’, for example.

    Blog by email

Some blogging softwares offer the ability for the owner to write a simple email that will directly post to the blog without using the blogging interface at all. The post will be published instantly and all that was necessary was for the owner to use his or her email.

    Post Slugs

This is the title of the article or posting that is included in the link, provided the owner is using Pretty Permalinks. If the title of the article is “ Man’s Journey to the Depths of Darkness”, the blogging tool software may truncate or simplify to “mans-journey-to-the-depths-of-darkness”. Using the options in the blogging software, the owner can change the Post Slug to “journey-to-darkness” to shorten the Permalink and adjust or edit spelling mishaps.

    Excerpt

This is a summary of your blog posting that will accompany your trackback. The owner can creates these summaries or the blogging software can be set to automatically excerpt the first paragraph, first seven sentences or whatever the owner feels necessary.

Leadership Skills Coaching - Manager as Coach - Getting Past the Hype
The Old Way – Command and ControlAlthough workplaces and management styles have come a long way in the last decade, the command and control style of management remains common practice in many companies. This management approach basically means that employees are told exactly what to do, when to do it and even how it should be done. The manager is in charge, has all the answers, and fixes all the problems. It’s no surprise that plenty of people find this approach demotivating - and that workplaces with a comma
