Sell Yourself in Ninety Seconds or Less: How to Develop a Great Elevator Pitch
What comes to people's mind when they say your name? You probably haven't given it a lot of thought; few of us have. When we don't develop and manage our professional image, we invite others to do this for us, and we lose control of how we are perceived. In business, creating and managing our image is called personal branding. A brand is the relationship or position an object or person holds in the mind of the consumer. For example, when you think of Volvo, what comes to mind? Most of us would answer "safety."When your name is spoken, what do people think? Whatever bubbles up is your personal brand. Personal brands summarize those key attributes that descr

    AOL Gives Up The Ghost
The company that dominated dial-up Internet use is coming to grip with the future. As broadband use increases dramatically, AOL has watched subscriptions decline and advertising dollars move to Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Facing approaching irrelevance, AOL has decided to act.AOL ReinventsIn an effort to compete, AOL is reinventing itself as an open use portal. To date, AOL has always restricted use of its portal to subscribers. No longer. AOL is beta testing a portal that makes services and content available to everyone. If all goes well, the company will launch the service this month.AOL’s MotivationThe growth of broadband use has correlated
    Never Worry About Competition!

One of our pet peeves is the fact that everybody is so worried about competition! It just drives us crazy! Never worry about competition! We’ve heard it so many times from so many customers and we try so hard to change people’s attitudes. What do you say to the person who’s reading this thinking, “I’m not going to put anybody’s link on my Website - that’s going to drive business to them instead of me!”

The Web is totally different - it’s a completely different world than inserting a flier for someone selling a competing product with you in your own product. You’re providing a resource that people will bookmark and come back to your Website to find links to other Websites. It’s a whole different ballgame here! You’re actually providing a resource! One of the things that people on the Web are constantly looking for is a good place to go to other places on the Web.

Everybody’s heard of Yahoo. It’s a multi-billion dollar business in just a few short years. Guess what their whole business started out doing? It was nothing but a place to go to other Websites from. On top of that, every link you add you makes sure you’ve got a link on their Site bringing people to you from their customers. Anybody who clicks on a link and goes to another Website just has to go up to that little button that says “back” on their browser, hit back, and pow! - they’re right back to your Website!

They can go over these links and use them to go check out other stuff. And so what?!? There’s so many billions of users on the Internet, all you want to do is get enough traffic coming through consistently to make the sales from those customers who chose to buy from you.

We have a friend involved in credit card processing and he’s got hundreds of people, maybe more, that have entered our Site to say, “Hey, can I put an advertisement for your Site on my Site?” and he’d pay them if any business comes through. Sometimes somebody clicks on that banner which goes to another Site, which goes to another Site, which goes to another Site and eventually they end up on yours and they buy your product.

    Double Entry Bookkeeping
Double-entry Bookkeeping is one of the standard accounting practices for recording financial transactions. Five hundred years ago it was codified for the first time by Luca Pacioli. The conceptual framework is that a business can be described by a number of different accounts, each describing an aspect of the business in monetary terms. Every transaction in double-entry Bookkeeping has a dual effect; for example, buying machinery means losing cash but gaining the monetary value of the machinery.Double-entry Bookkeeping works on the principle that assets are the summation of liabilities and equity. For the accounts to remain in balance, a change in one acc

The Paralysis that Affects Some Plumbers
It's always hard to be sure, isn't it, exactly when to follow up on a quote?I would always recommend within 48 hours for the following reasons:1) It is still a good time frame where people remember they have received your quote2) It shows that you are interested in helping them to get what they want3) Makes prospective clients feel cherished that you are interested in making sure their needs are met4) It allows you to iron out any potential misunderstandings and to 'get a feel' as to whether or not you have got the job. If they are still waiting on quotes from other Plumbers they will remember that you were prompt, courteous and inte

Paid Surveys – Another Earning Opportunity, Or Not?
Paid surveys are questionnaires, or interviews in which you answer some simple questions and earn money for it. Is this real? The answer is YES.Most companies that offer various products and services are constantly seeking for a way to improve quality of their products and services and that is the reason they value opinions of their customers. Sometimes in order to beat their competition, or just to improve their sales they are always trying to make changes in order to best satisfy the needs of their potential customers. This is precisely the number 1 reason why they are willing to invest certain amount of money in order to hire market research companies

How to Find the MOST Powerful VISION for your Business Plan That Will Explode Your Business Results
Is Your Vision to Be The Biggest and Baddest on the PlanetI frequently get approached by people and companies that want me to develop a business plan. The trouble is they try to tell me what the business plan should look like. And more often than not, they just want a quick and dirty paper plan. Typically, they want something that says their vision is that they want to be The Biggest and Baddest XYZ on the Planet.”Here Is What Is MissingThe problem with that is they’ve missed a big part of the equation. They are focused on what they want to be and not on what the customer wants, nor what the customer may think of them. It is importan

They just kept bouncing around til they found them. And it’s beautiful because they get business they wouldn’t have had. The people who actually sent the customer to them gets paid a nice fee, and everybody is happy and the customer’s satisfied because with just clicking his mouse he’s been able to get everything he needs for his new venture. It’s wonderful!

It’s so ridiculous that people worry so much about competition. Because it’s silly!! By joint venturing with these other Sites you just get your message across to so many more people. It reminds us in Mail Order of a mailing list. Over the years, we have made hundreds of thousands of dollars by renting out our names to mailing list brokers and to companies who used our buyers’ names.

There are some companies (we still run into them) that say, “These are my customers and no one else shall ever have them!” They won’t take this money! These thousands and thousands of dollars they could make every year, tens of thousands, because they have this crazy idea that they’re not going to share with anyone else. It’s really ridiculous!

Anytime you drive past a McDonald’s, Burger King, or a Wendy’s, look around and within a block or usually across the street you’ll find the competition. And they both make more money because they’re both there. People know food and they move to that area. Next time you go in front of a fast food place, look around and you’ll see a competitor.
