What have you done? You have given them a good reason why you did not just send them to the download (email confirmation) and you have also told them that once they confirm the email address, they will receive the requested download via email. So this gives you yet another opportunity to show them a webpage (after they click the confirmation link in the confirmation email).

If you do not have a sales page or product yet, simply have the subscriber redirected to a sales page for an affiliate product and do the same for the confirmation page. Your conversion rate probably won’t be as high, because you can’t tell them why they didn’t go straight to the download in most affiliate programs. But you will still make sales, and you should still pay for your advertising with the redirects.
