Why Donate a Vehicle?

It is easier to donate a used car, whether working or not, than to sell. One can donate cars, autos, trucks, motorcycles, vans, commercial vehicles, jet skis, snowmobiles, motor homes, buses, and even boats. The first and foremost advantage in vehicle donation is tax deduction. Tax deduction with donation of a vehicle will very well depend upon the market value of the vehicle at the time of donation. One can certainly seek the advice of a tax consultant concerning tax deduction with donation. Sometimes it so happens that the tax savings from vehicle donation will be more than that one may gain from sale. Donation of a vehicle is certainly stress-free. New Charity Tax Law Car Donations

Before 2005, the appeal of donating cars to charity was an idea that a lot of people considered. Old cars, which would not fetch a fair market price, would be donated to charity. In doing so, more valuable tax exemptions are met rather than going through the rigors and tiresome process of having the car appraised, maintained, and sold. Car donors would as get as much as a 100% mark-up value reflected in their tax exemptions compared to the price their beat-up cars would fetch when (and if) sold. Due to this great trade-off, more and more people started donating their old cars to charity since doing so provided a heftier financial benefit to themselves. It is along these lines that the IRS revised the tax benefits that one can take advantage of when donating vehicles.

New Charity Car Donation Tax Law

In its pursuit to curb inflated tax deductions, the IRS revised the Charity Car Donation Tax Law. The revision eliminates loopholes and deficiencies that donors have learned to abuse to trade off better value for their old cars. The logic behind this is quite simple: taxpayers would benefit more in giving away their beat up cars in exchange for substantial tax cuts.
