Does God Really Exist? Ask Jack Preger, MBE - Calcutta Street Doctor
Jack Preger was born an orthodox Jew in Manchester, UK in 1930. He was tipped to be a Rabbi, but lost his faith as a teenager until 16 years later, when as a farmer in Wales, he picked up an old bible in a second-hand bookshop, and inspired by the New Testament, converted to Catholicism, a faith which he later abandoned. An extraordinary experience when driving his tractor persuaded him to become a doctor, and he graduated when he was 42 in Dublin, Ireland. His new profession took him to a hellish Bangladesh refugee camp, then to India, where he operated a free clinic for street dwellers and destitutes on an open pavement in Kolkata India, for 14 years, and was imprisoned for his efforts. What religion does he believe in now?
